I started the final image with a pretty well defined pencil sketch, after creating a series of thumbnails with a Sharpie Extra fine point.
Once my sketch was “finished” I took the image into the computer and started the rendering process with Painter 9.
I used Painter for the big shapes. After getting some color relationship going I went to my favorite virtual place...Photoshop CS and completed the
rendering. I basically used very standard brushes, but in order to active a very realistic look on the gears I customized about 3 brushes.
