This is a scene from the English fairy tale "Jack and the Beanstalk", showing Jack escaping into the light of day from the horrors that awaited him in the giant's kitchen. Fairy tale pictures are typically either light and happy or dark and scary. In this image I've tried to contrast the two approaches, which to me representats what fairy tales are really about (happy go lucky kid almost gets cooked and eaten by cannibalistic serial killer!).
The beam of light creates a strong diagonal in the composition, and connects the giant with Jack. The three faces (in descending scale), as well as the various objects in the kitchen tell some of the story too.
