I finished reading the series last summer and I've been wanting to take a crack at painting Roland ever since. I thought he would be a great subject for a book illustration portfolio piece, but really, I just wanted to do this for fun. I was hoping to capture some of the complexities of the character -dark and deadly, yet conscientious and remorseful. A challenge to be sure and one I hope did the author justice.
