This painting is the result of a recent project of mine looking at how filmmakers have visualised imaginary cities.
It was my first attempt at creating a matte painting and although I don’t think I have achieved realism it could act as concept image that I could develop in the future.
The painting depicts a derelict part of a city that was once the scientific hub of the society. Great bronze statues were built in memory of their most revered scientists. As the culture developed however it abandoned technological advance and embraced a more artistic and religious way of life. The 'arrival' refers to the new Emperor sailing into the city.
