A 3d Model based on Gears of War Architecture. I was really impressed with the 2d Gears of war concept art by John Wallin Liberto and the architecture in the game so I set off to build a high res 3d model in Maya. This project was also a way for me to try out some new techniques in high resolution Hard Surface modeling. I used to have birds in the image for scal but then removed them because it looked pretty cliche, i'm interested in knowing what other people think, should I have left some birds in for scale?
I used the active smooth script along with the insert edge loops option in Maya to create the geo then imported it all into zbrush for small details and smoothing, then back out to maya for rendering. I used the camera projection method to texture this beast and re projected the texture back onto the geo from a fixed camera and rendered it all out with Mental Ray.
